#174: “Second Bullets At The Mini-WSOP”
I just got home from playing Day 1A of the JP Mini-WSOP, bagging up about 47K for when I return at 1pm on Saturday. I could have been on heaps but for a couple of unavoidable spots with turned and flopped flushes versus bigger flushes. Fortunately my passive ‘So I called’ lines saved me from ruin.
My table-mate and friend Chris Dowling busted in the third level, adventurously 3bet shoving his 85s on a Q-10-5 board after having his pre-flop 3bet cold-called by the ever-trappy Willow Connolly. She called with AA and held. Chris may have fired his first bullet into his left testicle but thanks to the re-entry option, he returned to our table moments later with bullet number two. Even with just one testicle intact, Chris is still a devastatingly quick draw and his second bullet ricocheted around the room, knocking out 6 players as he ended the day as chip-leader.
Day 1B is tomorrow and I want to wish luck to all those participating in what is one of the coolest events on the poker calendar. It is a deepstack with a great structure and JP’s card club in the Village Green in Tallaght is spacious and very comfortable, boasting a staff of EPT dealers and attracting a clientele who love their poker almost as much as they love the banter. The tournament looks like it will get over 200 runners, making for a prizepool of about 70K and as ever, the blog-maestro Danny Maxwell is providing excellent coverage on Irish Poker Boards.
